Agricultural Stress Index in Syria - November 2016

As can be seen from the ASI for November 2016, planting is ongoing for winter crops (mainly barley, wheat and winter vegetables), and early signs of healthy growth can be seen in northwest Syria and the coastal areas. Late November has seen early signs of crop growth in the southern governorates. Although there has been improved rainfall in Syria in November, further good rains are needed to complete planting by December. As mentioned in the previous month, it is still much too early to see what the impact will be on crop development. Most likely conflict, timely access to agricultural inputs and access to arable land will have a greater impact in the coming months.

Please note that since the ASI is based on Remotely Sensed data only, there is no confirmation on what crops have been planted.
