Agricultural Stress Index in Lebanon - October 2016

The ASI for the month of October shows that during the first week planting had not yet started, even though the planting of the main cereal crops (barley and wheat) should begin in October and extend until December. With planting increasing during the second part of the month, the coastal and northern regions in Lebanon show early signs of growth. During the last part of the month, a portion of the northern region witnesses an increase in the percentage of cropland slightly affected by agricultural stress, mainly due to slightly lower rainfall, especially the governorate of Akkar and, to a lesser extent, in the North Governorate. Comparing the first 10 days of the month with the last 10, Mount Lebanon and the South governorates seem to have a slight increase in the stress of percentage of cropland areas affected by dryness.
