Gender in Livelihood Assessment

About this Project

The present report was commissioned by CARE International in Turkey to better understand the different livelihood related needs, priorities, and resources of women, men, girls, and boys in northern Syria, to identify specific challenges and opportunities for women and girls, to better understand livelihood-related protection risks, and to develop a sense of possible future trends with regards to gender relations and women’s economic participation. The ultimate goal is to enhance livelihoods-related programming and to ensure that women, men, girls, and boys are provided with equal access and opportunities.

The analysis is based on data collected between May and June 2016 from 636 households in Idleb, Aleppo and Hassakeh governorates. 20% of the respondents were women. 14% of the participating households were female-headed, and 13% were internally displaced. People with disabilities lived in 13% of the families surveyed.
