Agrometeorological Monitoring Bulletin in Lebanon -February 2017

About this Project

Monthly precipitation totals for February were below the long-term average (2001-2016) across much of Lebanon. Rainfall levels were higher compared to the same month last year in most parts of North and Baalbek-Hermel governorates. However, precipitation amounts were mostly lower than a year ago for the rest of the country.

Planting of the 2017 winter grains such as wheat and barley were completed in January and harvesting of these crops is expected in mid-June. The ASI shows improved vegetation cover compared to January and throughout the three dekads of February, particularly in Beqaa and the northern parts of BaalbekHermel governorates, where cereals are predominant. Based on the ASI, Less than 10 percent of the agricultural areas of Lebanon were affected by moisture stress.

Please note that since the ASI is based on remotely sensed data only, there is no conrmation on what crops have been planted.
